Why Toner is Great for Your Skincare Ritual

Skincare is so important at all ages, as we all need to look after our skin. These days, there are so many skin care products available, it’s sometimes hard to know what to use and what it does. Some of the basics to skin care include a toner, eye cream, serums, and moisturizer. You may be familiar with eye cream and moisturizers and what they can do for your skin, but do you know much about toner and why it’s great to add into your skincare ritual?

We’re going to take a look into why toner is great for your skincare ritual, how to use it and the great benefits it gives to your skin.

What is Toner and What Does it do?

Toner can be a lotion, tonic or wash that is designed to cleanse the skin and help to reduce the appearance of pores on the face. It moisturizes, protects and refreshes the skin and also gets it ready for applying your serum and moisturizer on top.

Toner can help to remove excess oil, make up and dirt that is left on the skin, after washing. The toner thoroughly cleans and close the pores, which helps to reduce the size of them and keeps them from getting blocked. It also restores the skin’s natural pH balance and prepares the skin, to better absorb moisturizer.

The way this works is that the liquid penetrates into the skin quickly, to remove dead skin cells and provide hydration. It basically preps the pores and acts as a primer, for the rest of your skincare products and helps to wake up the skin, especially in the morning.

When Should You Use a Toner?

When bringing toner into your skincare ritual, you want to be using it every morning and night, to see the great benefits of it. By using it in the morning, at the start of your day, it creates a healthy base for your makeup, as well as wakening up the skin. When using it at night, it helps to clean and nourish the skin, making sure any excess oils and dirt, are removed from the skin.

For adding toner into your skincare ritual, make sure you’re cleansing your face first, before using the toner and then once this has been used, you can pop on any skincare products such as eye cream, serum, and moisturizer, afterwards.

How to Use a Toner

Toner is super easy and quick to use, there really isn’t much too it. When you’ve found a toner that suits your skin type and you like using, you can then introduce it into your skincare ritual. Some toners can come as a pour lid, where as some may be spray bottles. You can use a cotton pad and apply the toner onto this and then wipe it gently in upward movement, over the skin. You may find it easier with a spray bottle, to spritz it onto your face lightly, and then use a cotton pad to wipe it around and over the skin.  Our Rose Geranium Toner is in a spray bottle which make it easy to apply.

Hydrating toners are the gentlest toner you can get and it gives the skin a quick boost of hydration and refreshment. Exfoliating Toners

Exfoliating toners are the key to glowing skin. They often contain a type of hydroxy acid of fruit enzyme, which enhances cleansing significantly. It removes dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin and helps to get rid of flakiness, dullness and roughness on the skin. The exfoliator also helps to keep the pores clean and reduce their visibility. They are good for targeting a number of skin concerns and great for giving the skin a thorough cleanse. They’re suitable for normal, combination and oily skin types and they can be irritating for dry and sensitive skin types.

Treatment Toners

Treatment toners are intended to solve specific skin problems and concerns. You may see them being marketed as anti-ageing toners, brightening toners and soothing toners etc. It depends on which toner, for the result you would get from it. For example, a brightening toner would be formulated with Vitamin C, to reduce discoloration and brighten the skin. Each toner will have specific ingredients, to help target the problem area they are helping. They’re good for all skin types and helping to reduce the skin concerns and areas.
